A Review of David Sklansky's "Getting the Best of It"
Casino games and betting goes hand in hand. Casino games will not be attractive and exciting to gamblers without the element of betting. Betting is an important aspect of gambling so it is important that serious gamblers as well as casino goers learn how to manage their stakes and bets wisely. In this regard, David Sklansky introduced the book "Getting the Best of It," to those who are deeply interested in learning the methods that would improve their odds in casino games.
"Getting the Best of It," is one of the many books published which covered the different games played by people visiting casinos and other gambling establishments. It contains a collection of essays about the significant elements of gambling that a gambler should know. However, to make it more attractive to readers, the author concentrated on three gambling events which are keno, blackjack, horse-racing and poker.
The first part of the book is dedicated to the mathematics behind these games. Just like other casino games, it is important that gamblers know the different probabilities and odds involved in these games. Almost all of the essays under the first section of "Getting the Best of It," discussed the basics in keno, blackjack, poker and horse-racing. Hence, these essays will contribute a lot to readers because if a gambler does not know the basics in these games, they will not succeed.
The section part of the book featured 12 articles that highlighted poker. Even if most of these articles contain similar information that are written in other books, each of them still have distinct information that would be of great help to aspiring poker players.
The third and fourth section of the book focused on blackjack and keno. These chapters contain information and suggestions that are not featured in other gambling books, which make this a must-read book to gamblers. Many authors who have reviewed this book recommend it because almost all of the details in these chapters are useful before gamblers explore the different casino games.
The last section of "Getting the Best of It," is meant for sports bettors. The author succeeded in exploring why sports bettors experience problems in beating these games. However, this section failed to prove why some techniques used by sports bettors are inefficient.
It is normal that this book has loopholes, but what is important that it was able to share knowledge and tips to new gamblers. This book should still be read by gamblers because it contains information that cannot be found in other gambling books. Every gambling book has unique details conveyed to readers. Thus, this book is a must-read to amateur gamblers because it also features the different elements of gambling that every gambler should know.
